All of our offerings are established orchids with roots attached to the mounts. We hold all of our orchids in our greenhouses until the roots grow onto whatever mounting media they are tied. Once they are attached, they are put on this page for sale. Not a day sooner. Our orchids on mounts selections may be tied to cork bark, hickory bark, crape myrtle, or persimmon. We also recycle imperfect hosiery to tie on our mounts.
The hosiery is soft and does not cut into the delicate orchid plant material. As the hosiery ages, it disintegrates. Some mounts may be tied on with monofilament or black string. Orchids on mounts. Brassavola cebolleta (Onion -Leafed Brassavola)

Native to Bolivia, Paraguay, and Brazil. We grow mounted and allow to dry between waterings. Provide good morning sun or any location with bright indirect light. The wonderfully night time fragrant blooms are held on stems that can bear 2-3 flowers. This Brassavola orchid species tends to have more yellow coloration than other Brassavola species.. Brassavola perrinii

Bloom size mounted orchids. Small to medium sized grower. Fragrant long lasting blooms. Leaves are referred to as terete meaning they are pencil shaped. Blooms are many per stem ranging from 3 to 6. Easy to grow. Provide brighter light levels as those for Cattleya alliance. Oval shaped flower lip/labellum is clean white with chartreuse throat. Spring-Summer bloomers. Bulbophyllum alagense (small form) Common name Alag River Bulbophyllum.

Found in the Philippines growing in mossy forests as a miniature sized orchid. Growths look like air filled sacs like some algae. Blooms are triangular shaped, golden in color becoming darker at the end of sepals, light lemony yellow at center with petals and lip, and bear a striking white staminode. This one is perfect for terrariums and herbarium growers. Keep moist and warm for best growing. Grow shady. $30.00 SOLD OUT

Another sweetly scented Bulbophyllum. This one smells like an open jar of honey. Interesting pseudobulbs are popsicle shaped and change color with light levels. Most often the psuedobulbs are light orange to dark burgundy in our North Carolina greenhouses. Easy to grow rambling growth habit can become specimen sized quickly if given year round moisture and bright indirect light. This plant can be potted with an open medium, given a tree fern or cork mount and given hot to warm temperatures, good air circulation, and frequent repottings. Synonyms include: Bulbophyllum watsonianum, Bulbophyllum amygdalinum, and Eria ambrosia. Generous size mounts. $30 Not interested in a mount, inquire about a potted plants of this orchid species.

From the side they look like horse faces. These are very nice size plants. Mounted species orchid. Fall to Summer Bloomers. Bloom Size $20.00 to 30.00

Blooms in the spring and fall with solitary upside down blooms. Warm grower endemic to Assam, Myanamar, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Borneo, Java, Moluccas, The Philippines, Sulawesi, Sumatra, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Island. The entire plant has interest with the (non-resupinate) blooms to the hairy, stout rhizomes. Blooms are fragrantly scented like cloves. YUMMY! This is the perfect combination of both Bulbophyllum species. Easy to grow with year round moisture, medium light levels, and warm temps. Multiple growth plants that ramble and creep around the mount. Hairy roots have interest in themselves. Flowers are presented nicely above foliage. A Bulbophyllum with No foul odor. Established divisions are offered with well over 5 growths each. Grows in a nice neat habit. Prices range from $30.00 for smallest mounts to $50.00 for much larger mounts. Brazilian native. Grow warm and bright for best growth and bloomings. Decorative purple spots occur when bright light levels provided. Daily watering recommended. Growths about 5 inches in height. Considered a dwarf species. Can produce one to two leaves per growth although considered a bifoliate. Produces very fragrant flowers late summer to early fall. Bloom size plants offered. Native to Venezuela. Smallish growing Cattleya species with large blooms. Blooms are white with canary yellow throat interior. Grown from flask with famous parent 'Caballero.' Vigrous growers mounted on hard woods. Grow warm to hot with frequent watering as per mount culture. Winter blooms are floral fragrant. Bloom size, Mature Mounted Orchid Species. $65.00

 

A little piece of heaven on earth. Strong growing semi-alba variety of the sweet smelling Cattleya walkeriana. Plants are established and growing nicely on mounts. Native to areas in Brazil that are normally stream side or on branches above the stream. Jack Webster also told me that in habit these plants never has a drying period. Since the spray from river and streams provides super high humidify and constant moisture, This orchid does best with year round waterings. Common Name Walker's Cattleya. 25$ and up

 

Philippine native that grows well in warm to hot growing conditions. Free flowering about 3-4 times per year. Grow warm and water frequently. Blooms star shaped, bright orange with contrasting lighter colored center. Interesting hairy looking roots. Good orchidarium cultivar.Synonyms Ceratostylis latipetala. $25 (sold out)

 

 

Established bloom size mounts. Some have previously bloomed. Pendant growth habit makes this orchid species a perfect candidate for mounting culture. Often stems will overhang pots and bend hard from the weight of growths. With mounted culture this is not a problem. Provide bright light and warm temperature for this Asian native. A dry rest period in winter ensures conditions for bloomings. Many alternating blooms are produced on semi-deciduous pendant hanging canes. Do not cut leafless canes off or trim. Blooms can be produced form these old mature leafless growths. Blooms for this variety we offer are bright white with eye catching magenta red throat interiors. Blooms are wonderfully fragrant. These are established large Bloom size keikes of our CCM awarded Dendrobium. This orchid species is easy to bloom and a vigorous bloomer. Fun to grow! Broomstick growth habit makes it interesting. Long lasting blooms are soft yellow in profusion. Easy and rewarding orchid. $25.00

 

Exciting miniature with large blooms. Indigenous to China. In natural habit they grow on underside of branches so the blooms do not get water on them during the flowering season. Blooms in the fall. Easily cultivated in temperature situations from 40 to 95 degrees. Very durable plant with large blooms. Blooms are larger than the 1 inch pseudobulbs. NE Australian native: Micro miniature that likes bright light levels and a dry winter rest. Bloom season is late Winter to early Spring. May be shown offered as Davejonesia prenticei. Leaves are variable from one cane to the other. Some leaves are solid green and others can be heavily variegated, yes on the same orchid species. Dendrobium-Dockrillia wasellii

Native to Australia. Has closely grouped upright, grooved, banana shaped leaves. Grow bright and best suited for mounting culture. Minimal winter drying preferred. Grow best subjected to intermediate to warm temperatures. Bloom size plants on cork bark. (Dinema polybulbon) Epidendrum polybulbon 'Golden Gate'

Found in fairly wet forest at higher elevations throughout Mexico, Central America and the islands of the Caribbean. Grows beautifully and performs perfectly. Grow one of these to display size quickly! Desirable species that is very rewarding. Sweetly fragrant miniature. Leptotes bicolor

These orchids are being offered only on mounts. Fragrant white flowers with delicate pink lips. Grow with medium light conditions and water often. Bloom size and bloom every Feb-March-April, Spring. Choice parents were used in these hybrids. We now have a mix of different parentage to offer to the public. John Dunkelberger breeding at it's finest. He is the one to produce the largest flowers on this orchid species. Fragrant Orchid. $30.00 Smaller near bloom size mounts. ( Very limited)

Nanodes discolor

Miniature. Near translucent flowers of green and pink have extremely heavy substance. Plants grow as a creeping mat over the mount. Very attractive even when not in bloom. Good under light candidate. The perfect orchid gift for someone who has many orchids. They probably don't have this one yet. $25 Inquire for larger mounts.

 

Pleurothallis racemiflora 'Seagrove Golden Fiddles' Endemic to Jamaica, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia and Venezuela. For best growing culture, provide year round moisture with good air movement. A beautiful presentation when in flower. Sweetly scented fiddle- shaped yellow translucent blooms hang from wiry stems. Warm grower. Easy!! Very generous established mounts. $30 Temporarily Out.

Scaphyglottis graminofolia (The grass like leaf Scaphyglottis) Blooms periodically throughout the year with Spring appearing to be the heaviest for blooms. Found from Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia and Venezuela in wet montane and cloud forests at elevations of 850 to 2600 meters as a small sized, cool to hot growing orchid. Easy! $20.00

Tolumnia leiboldii alba (Cuba) (T variegatum) Small sized, equitant grows hot to warm as an epiphyte in bushes and shrubs in Cuba and the Cayman Islands at coastal to low elevations. Obtained from the Courtney Hackney collection many years ago. I am baffled about this species now being thought of as T. variegatum as we grow variegatum also and the growth habits are very different. Multiple fan growths can be shipped bare root or mounted. Easy to grow and very adaptable to growing conditions. Grow warm to cool. Provide ample moisture and grow relatively bright. Blooms open white in our greenhouses and then take on a slight pink hue with high temperatures and bright light levels. $30.00 mounted or bare root.

Tetrarthron Jeanette Mallory 'Fischer' (Tetramicra canaliculata x Caularthron bicornutum) Plants offered are original divisions of our CCM/AOS 'Fischer' clone. Easy to grow. Spear shaped leaves grow upright. Plant has grown in variable temperatures from 50-95 degrees Fahrenheit. A profusion of blooms are produced early Summer annually. Mounted Orchid Care and Cultural Tips from Seagrove Orchids

Mounted orchids require watering on a more regular basis. Most of our orchids are mounted directly to the mounting material or have a small amount of moss attached to the mount to hold a little bit of moisture between watering's. Most mounted orchids are going to dry quickly after watering and will need to be watered thoroughly once they become dry. A general rule of thumb is to water your mounted orchids two to three times weekly to ensure they have enough moisture to grow expertly and be happy in their grow environment. Observe that orchid roots are white when they are dry and green or red when they are wet. Apply water generously to the root mass so that the roots are green or red and you will know your orchid is accepting water. Fertilizer can be applied about every 2-3 weeks, after a thorough watering.

When choosing a type of wood to use for mounting your orchids, choose wood that is long lasting so it can provide a home for your orchid for many years. Cork, Crepe Myrtle, Sassafras, Cyprus, Hickory, Magnolia. and Persimmon are a few we have used at Seagrove Orchids with success. Old grapevine adds character and interest to the mount. Choose a mount large enough for years of growth. Also, orchids that remain more compact are better suited to mount culture.

Once you decide on your orchid orientation to your mount, there are many materials you can use to attach your orchid. Monofilament, thread, and old hosiery work just fine. I have best success with the old hosiery because it breaks down within years and is soft to the orchid growths.

How long will it take for my orchids to attach to its new mount home? If your orchid is in new growth, you should see it attach within weeks. If not, it can take months for the new orchid to attach. Be patient!!

Temperatures and light will depend on the species or hybrid you are growing. Most plants will appreciate lower light and moderate temperatures for the first few weeks after mounting to avoid stress. After that, you will need to adjust for the culture of specific plants.
